In a unique and quiet location, on a beautiful old estate (protected nature reserve), right in the center of the Netherlands, is a detached annex of a historic farm. Within cycling distance of the center of Utrecht and half an hour by train to Amsterdam, yet very quiet. The house is as good as new and is fully equipped for a stay of up to 5 guests (in consultation even expandable). It is a spacious and luxurious house. Thus, it is heated in winter and cooled in summer by an (earth) heat pump, it has a new bathroom, 2 toilets and a kitchen with all amenities and equipment. The farm itself has been completely converted into a residential farm and is therefore wonderfully quiet. The house is realized in a large stable. This stable has no further function, so no nuisance from that either. Around the house is a sheep pasture, where a flock of Dutch Zwartbles sheep graze.
Nature and surroundings
Kouwenhoven is located on the Niënhof estate. Niënhof estate borders the Kromme Rijn River and is surrounded by meadows. In the Middle Ages, the nearby monastery Oostbroek owned an 'uithof', a farm here. In addition, the monks built a new farm: a 'nien hof', in the Utrecht dialect of those days. The monastery went under during the Reformation and the farm changed hands many times through inheritance and sale, but the area has always retained its name. The farm itself is called Kouwenhoven. Although the history of the farm goes far back, the oldest buildings have not survived. The current buildings date from around 1900. The farm is completely free at the end of a long dead-end road, mostly through a forest. The surroundings, especially for the location; so close to Utrecht, are beautiful. From the house you see especially many birds and regularly roe deer. Given the protected nature of the estate, pets are not allowed.
