Welcome to this special cozy unique cottage (Dec 2024), located on the National Park Dwingelderveld and near the National Park Drents-Friese Wold. Cottage MERCURIUS offers the ideal setting for a wonderful stay in nature, where you can escape from the daily hustle and bustle and completely relax.The architect-designed cottage (design architect Nynke-Rixt Jukema), spread over three floors, is decorated with care and taste and offers a unique spatial experience due to its playful design.There are three compact bedrooms: 2x2 pers 160x200 and bunk bed 80x200, 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets so there is sufficient privacy and comfort for (young) families or peace seekers. "Landing together" by the warm wood stove is of course also possible! The cottage is sleek & comfortably equipped: underfloor heating everywhere, indoor bicycle charging point, Jotul wood stove, Smart TV: fast streaming and parking in front of the door. Nature and surroundings
The cottage is playfully placed on one of two hills and invites you to enjoy the nature around you, both inside and outside. From the living room on the top floor, you not only have a view of forest (spot the deer) but also over the nature reserve Terhorsterzand/Dwingelderveld. Here are moors, woods, fens and lakes where there is plenty of walking, cycling and swimming. A shared simple heated swimming pool (open in June, July and August = free / camping) is 300 meters walking distance. On a cul-de-sac, bordering forest and heathland, there are some 12 different cottages on private property. You can enjoy them in the sun on the terrace in the morning and under the veranda in the evening. In the quiet nights here you can still really experience the darkness and discover the stars. Floor December 20, 2025 General rating:A very nice and cozy cottage to stay in for a week (and longer too ;-)). Beautiful house. Practically furnished and very complete. Everything well organized, quick clear communication. Would love to come back in the spring to relax in the sun on the terraces around the house.
Een heel fijn en gezellig huisje om een week in te verblijven (en langer ook ;-)). Mooi huis. Praktisch ingericht en heel compleet ingericht. Alles goed geregeld, snelle duidelijke communicatie. Komen graag nog eens terug in de lente om heerlijk te vertoeven in de zon op de terrassen rond het huis.
Nature, peace & environment:Good base to explore National Park Dwingelderveld and other nature reserves in the area. All within walking and cycling distance. Beilen is very close, convenient for shopping and connection to public transport (train). Also enjoyed the starry sky, it is really dark there at night.

Nature, peace & environment:We immediately felt on vacation in the fine cottage. It looked cozy; flower and bottle of wine on the table and nicely decorated. The living room was more spacious than expected. Kitchen very well equipped. Everything fresh and tidy. On 2 sides outside you can sit so always in the sun. We looked on one side on the flowering heather and the other side on a piece of forest where we hung our hammocks. In the morning Pilates in the grass at night lots of stars to see. Good sleeping too. Bedrooms are a bit smaller and without closets, but there is such a stand for your suitcase. Totally fine. 2 bathrooms was also nice. Nature walk you so. Through forest path you can walk to the moor and along beautiful fens. Among others around sunset always done. Beautiful skies. Orvelte and Dwingeloo about 20 minutes. In Gieten a great mountain bike route and beautiful lake there for swimming and water park (also fun for adolescents!) . Many dolmens visited also! In short, a top vacation!
We voelden ons direct op vakantie in het fijne huisje. Het zag er gezellig uit; bloemetje en fles wijn op tafel en fijn ingericht. De woonkamer was ruimer dan verwacht. Keuken heel compleet uitgerust. Alles fris en netjes. Aan 2 kanten buiten kun je zitten dus altijd in de zon. We keken aan een kant op de bloeiende hei en de andere kant op een stukje bos waar we onze hangmatten hebben opgehangen. ‘s Morgens Pilates in het gras ‘‘s avonds veel sterren te zien. Goed kunnen slapen ook. Slaapkamers zijn wat kleiner en zonder kledingkasten, maar er is zo’n standaard voor je koffer. Helemaal prima. 2 badkamers was ook fijn. Natuur loop je zo in. Door bospaadje loop je zo naar de hei en langs mooie vennen. Onder andere rond zonsondergang steeds gedaan. Prachtige luchten. Orvelte en Dwingeloo op zo’n 20 minuten. In Gieten een geweldige mountainbikeroute en mooi meer daar om te zwemmen en waterpark (ook leuk voor pubers!) . Veel hunebedden bezocht ook! Kortom een topvakantie!
