The Garden House in Abcoude, a 17th century village near Amsterdam, is a quaint 18th century house said to have once been a coach house of an estate. The previous occupant was the late architect Prof. Moshé Zwarts, the father of the current owner. Zwarts restored the property in the early 1980s and decorated it in a special way with his own designs, classic design furniture by Breuer and Le Corbusier and a large collection of fine art. Surrounding the house is a beautifully designed garden, combined with a traditional, well-tended orchard. There are 2 terraces with comfortable garden furniture and electric sunshades. The living room is spacious and equipped with a large dining table, fireplace and sitting area. This room has an open passage to the spacious well-equipped kitchen. There are 3 spacious, bright, comfortable bedrooms (on bgg, 1 and 2 high), 2 bathrooms and separate toilets.
Nature and surroundings
The house is located on the Gein River, where Rembrandt and Mondrian, among others, painted, a clean river, rich in bird and plant species. For outdoor swimmers there is a swimming ladder with jetty. The area is very attractive for walkers and cyclists. Along the Gein are some beautiful country houses from the 17th century and manor houses. A special occasion is the Anna Haen farm, which has a cafe with a terrace. Here you can buy local products and have lunch. Walking and cycling can also be done along the Vecht, the Ankeveen lakes, and also the Bussumse heath easily accessible by car. An ideal place to walk the dog. The nearest 17th century town of Weesp (approx. 2 km) has good restaurants and stores. The village of Abcoude is about 6 km. A popular spot there is the terrace of Herberg de Eendracht. Amsterdam is approx. 20 minutes by car. The metro stop to Amsterdam is ±20' walk. Electric car charging is possible on the premises.
