The nature house is a beautiful white villa with a large park-like garden and can be booked as a vacation home for groups of up to 8 people. It features four luxurious double rooms with private bathrooms, a spacious living room, a garden room, and a kitchen. Thanks to the home’s spacious layout and the natural surroundings, this nature house is the perfect place to spend quality time with family or friends. The home is not suitable for young children or parties. In addition, we also operate as a B&B, event, wedding, and meeting venue, and this place is also our home. Upon request, we’ll lovingly prepare a sumptuous breakfast, lunch, high tea, cocktail reception, and evening meal—including a three-course dinner. This historic building was constructed in 1859 as a residence for the chief director of the prisons in Veenhuizen. Originally, the building had no name, but due to its “resemblance to” Soestdijk Palace, the stately building was soon dubbed “Klein Soestdijk.” Heating and electricity costs will be billed based on actual usage at the rates in effect at that time.
Nature and surroundings
Veenhuizen is located in the heart of Drenthe’s natural landscape, on the border with Friesland. From the nature house, it’s just a 3-minute walk to the forest, and you can walk straight through the forest to the Fochteloërveen, a beautiful nature reserve home to many rare birds, dragonflies, and other wildlife. The Drents Friese Wold and other beautiful nature reserves are also just around the corner. Veenhuizen also has a unique history. It was founded 200 years ago as a “Colony of Benevolence” and, after about 35 years, was taken over by the Ministry of the Interior and later by the Ministry of Justice, which kept it completely sealed off until 1983. Because hernia goes a historic building, the insulation is not optimal. All rooms can be heated quickly and well but in winter it is not cheap. We paid 205 euros extra in this midweek.

We stayed with 8 adults for a midweek in this iconic house in museum village Veenhuizen (in it fell O&N). The stylish and luxurious bedrooms are extremely comfortable, in the beautiful living and garden room you feel the history. The kitchen is fully equipped. The hostess and host are very warm and want to please you as much as possible. The house is a picture, you walk straight into the Fochteloër Veen and in and around the village you experience the stories of the Colonies of Prosperity and Veenhuizen as a justice village. We really enjoyed it!

De gastvrouw en -heer zijn heel hartelijk en willen het je zoveel mogelijk naar de zin maken.
