There were no real duvets, just a thick polyester blanket. Now, most people know that polyester doesn’t breathe, which makes it completely unsuitable in warm climates, but here this was the only option provided. We contacted the host about it (who was nice, polite, and quick to respond), but he referred to it as a “2-in-1 duvet,” which apparently was what they were offering. It didn’t stop there, because the mattress was completely covered in plastic—the kind you only see on hospital beds (easy to wipe clean). Again, plastic doesn’t breathe, so it can get very hot to sleep on, especially in warm climates. So it was unbearable. We could have partially solved the problem by lying on top of towels and using a towel as a duvet, but should that even be necessary? The feeling of lying in an insanely warm pod on a hot, squeaky rubber mattress with a hot polyester duvet is terrible. This place could have been a hit, but it was sadly a miss for us.

Upon arrival, it looks amazing—you drive through a beautiful orchard with plum, pear, cherry, and apple trees—but on closer inspection, it falls short. To reach the pod, we walk through a field of rotten fruit and long, uncut grass that had just been left there. The pod itself was cute and adequate enough, but it was poorly designed with no real ventilation, so the heat was unbearable. There was a tiny fridge, which was nice, but a fridge also needs to keep things cool—which this one didn’t.
