GIETHOORN is situated amid beautiful natural scenery, such as reed beds and various bodies of water created by peat extraction and major floods Giethoorn is known for its canals and many characteristic little bridges, footbridges, farms, and, of course, the punters, which is why it’s also called the “Venice of Holland.” The welcoming village of Giethoorn has a great deal to offer, especially in terms of water recreation and relaxation, with all necessary amenities nearby, many cozy restaurants with outdoor seating, shops, a supermarket, and museums such as the well-known Oude Aarde and the Gloria Maris Shell Gallery. The surrounding area is also ideal for wonderful walking and biking trips. After all, the Weerribben-Wieden nature reserve, covering at least 13,000 ha, is just around the corner.
