Nature and surroundings
Our yard is located in the middle of the Schagerwad, a 100 ha nature reserve just outside Schagen. This area is known for its meadow birds. The black-tailed godwit, lapwing, oystercatcher and redshank are common guests in spring. In autumn and winter you can see teals, shovelers and hundreds of wigeons. During migration time, in late March/April, you'll see waders such as: bar-tailed godwit, sandpiper, snipe, ruff, curlew, golden plover, whitethroat, spotted redshank and greenshank. Groups of geese are present throughout the year. But also the kingfisher and the bittern are visible in the yard, and of course our nest of kestrels.Furthermore, our cottage is 3km away from the center of Schagen with the famous West Frisian market on Thursdays.
