Our nature house is approx. 60 mtr2 and has a veranda of 12mtr2. Nothing is perfect, but everything is cozy: the living room with a wood stove that provides heat, the sleeping area with 2 beds (each 90x190), the bathroom with shower, the kitchen full of pots and pans and of course the veranda with lazy chairs and another fire pit in which you can barbecue. It is attractive for nature lovers and peace seekers who like to light a fire and accept the occasional mouse shooting by. For 15 Euro per wheelbarrow we provide you with the wood for the wood stove and the fire pit. On the large property we have a small lake, many tall trees and if you sit very quietly on the porch at night and stare at the stars, there is a chance that you can hear the beavers roaming around. It is very quiet here, because we have hardly any neighbors and the cottage is located on a dirt road. It is one of the rare places where you hardly use your cell phone, because the internet here is poor. Welcome.

Nature and surroundings

Our wooden cottage is located in a nature reserve with forests and fens. You can walk and cycle endlessly here. Nearby you have a "barefoot path" and 18km away is the Mechelen heath. You can drive to Maastricht or Liege in less than an hour, or to Brussels or Antwerp in an hour. In Zutendaal you have a supermarket, a bakery and a few restaurants. But you can also just enjoy staying on site. Start the day with breakfast on the terrace and end the day sitting by a crackling wood fire, sipping a drink. We have reading books galore, and you can paint or draw, meditate, practice yoga or just quietly look around. If you just sit very still it is possible that a deer or roe might jump through the garden. There is a cat that is not ours. We ask guests to give the cat the available kibble. The cat is allowed, but does not have to be inside and should mainly be outside catching mice.Beware: You won't want to leave here!

We went for a walk and can’t even begin to describe how great it is to do other activities. I’m giving it a 9 instead of a 10 because the cottage wasn’t connected to the sewer system and the tap water came from a well. And that last point, in particular, was a downside for me personally because it seemed to make me sick. My husband, however, was fine. So we had to buy bottled water.

    Nature, peace & environment: 5 /5

The cottage is located on a sandy path with little traffic, just outside the village of Stalken. We brought our dogs along and spent most of our time hiking; there are plenty of opportunities to do so in the beautiful natural surroundings. The garden is natural and a paradise for birds, frogs, insects, and wildlife. Behind the garden is a fenced-off section of nature reserve. We were very pleased with the location, the spacious garden, and the peace and quiet.

For those who can do without the Internet, it is an excellent stay.

The reality more than met the expectation offered in the advertisement. The cottage has all the amenities you would expect from a home in nature.

For us, it was perfect! The smell of wood combined with nature. Ideal size, spacious yet cozy, also that the sleeping area is lower; a very nice touch. We could see ourselves living there actually.

    Nature, peace & environment: 5 /5

This is the definition of a nature house! You see so many "in the middle of the green" but this one is really in the middle of the green. You hear nothing but the twittering of birds. No wifi, no TV ... wonderful!

What does “contactless stay” mean?
You can stay here without personal contact with the host, for example via a key safe or digital access. A contactless stay does not always have to be mandatory.
Selection of activities
After each stay, we invite our guests to rate the nature house, the surroundings, and specific activities. An activity is only shown at a nature house if it meets two conditions: at least 20 unique reviews have been given, and at least 60% of guests gave a score of ‘amazing’ (3/4) or ‘wow’ (4/4).
