Our nature house is approx. 60 mtr2 and has a veranda of 12mtr2. Nothing is perfect, but everything is cozy: the living room with a wood stove that provides heat, the sleeping area with 2 beds (each 90x190), the renovated bathroom with shower, the kitchen full of pots and pans and of course the veranda with lazy chairs and another fire pit in which you can barbecue. It is attractive for nature lovers and peace seekers who like to light a fire and accept the occasional mouse shooting by. For 15 Euro per wheelbarrow we provide you with wood for the wood stove and the fire pit. On the large property we have a small lake, many tall trees and if you sit very quietly on the porch at night and stare at the stars, you have a chance of hearing the beavers roaming around. It is very quiet here, because we have hardly any neighbors and the cottage is located on a dirt road. It is one of the rare places where you hardly use your cell phone, because the internet here is poor.
Nature and surroundings
Our wooden cottage is located in a nature reserve with forests and fens. You can walk and cycle endlessly here. Nearby you have a "barefoot path" and 18km away is the Mechelen heath. You drive in less than an hour to Maastricht or Liege, or in an hour to Brussels or Antwerp. In Zutendaal you have a supermarket, a bakery and a few restaurants, but you can also just stay on site. Start the day with breakfast on the terrace and end the day sitting by a crackling wood fire, sipping a drink. We have reading books to spare, and you can paint or draw, meditate, practice yoga or just quietly look around. If you just sit very still, it is possible that a deer or roe might jump through the garden. There is a cat that is not ours, but comes by very regularly. We ask guests to give the cat the available kibble. The cat is allowed, but does not have to be inside - beware: You won't want to leave here!
