In October 2022, we saw the nature house for the first time. To get there, we had to cross the river in a small wooden boat. The adventure had begun! Over the first few months of 2023, we transformed what had been a dilapidated house into a charming and sturdy home. The house is insulated and fitted with new windows and doors. The upper floor has been converted from an attic into a cozy space with a bathroom. The living room features a wood stove. The house is equipped with all basic amenities and has hot water provided by boilers. It is connected to the electrical grid. Water is drawn from the Una River using a pump. Drinking water is available in bottles that can be refilled at a spring in Kulen Vakuf. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the neighbors of the nature house, who will help you carry your luggage across. After that, you can enjoy paddling across to the other side on your own. An adventurous stay is guaranteed!
Nature and surroundings
The nature house is located in the heart of Una National Park, right on the Una River. The property spans 6,000 square meters of private land, stretching more than 100 meters along the river. Behind the cottage, the slope rises steeply up to the old railway line from Zagreb to Split. The surroundings are lush and green, with tremendous biodiversity. It is a mountainous area with peaks reaching nearly 2,000 meters (Mount Klekovaca near the town of Drvar). The famous Strbacki Buk and Martin Brod waterfalls are located nearby. The town of Kulen Vakuf is 3 kilometers away and has a few restaurants where you can eat at very reasonable prices. It also offers basic amenities such as supermarkets and restaurants.
