Where once stood a mill and later a steam pumping station, an electric pumping station appeared around 1920. This pumping station has been turned into a guesthouse. The building is suitable for people who love peace, space, nature and 'other than ordinary'. You sleep under the water level, in a cool basement. This is where the water used to flow in from the polder and was pumped up. From your bed you look out over the water and see the activity of nesting coots and swaying reeds. In the small sitting area you look out over willows, the vliet and the polderland. A kitchenette, toilet and shower complete your Tiny House and make your stay a unique experience. There is no TV but there is wifi. You have your own terrace and can enjoy the surrounding picturesque garden. Present: bed linen, kitchen linen, coffee and tea. This nature house is suitable for 1 or 2 persons. Due to the stairs, unfortunately unsuitable for people with mobility problems. Also unsuitable for pets.
Nature and surroundings
There are 3 buildings: a thatched house, a wooden barn and a former electric polder pumping station. The Blokhoven Millvliet runs through the entire garden. All around there are vistas to the wide polder land. The garden has different atmospheres. This nature house is located in Schalkwijk near Utrecht. A friendly ribbon village with narrow bridges and several old farms. The village borders on the beautiful outskirts of the Lek River with its floodplains, polder land and forts. It is part of De Hollandse Waterlinie that received World Heritage status in 2021.
