Nature house in Ambt Delden

The nature house makes a dual impression. The conversion from barn to lodge has been beautifully and solidly executed. Original architectural details, such as the beams, have been beautifully preserved. A lovely mezzanine has been created with a bed and a luxurious bathtub; there’s a nice fireplace, good bathroom fixtures, and a nice kitchen. The decor, however, pales in comparison. There’s no shower curtain or shelf in the shower, and there are exactly four of each item of cookware and tableware. Sometimes you need a spoon or fork while cooking, so with four people, that’s inconvenient and feels a bit like misplaced frugality. There’s only one cutting board, so cooking together becomes difficult. It also means the dishwasher has to run two or three times a day, often only half-full. That’s not very eco-friendly. This detracts from the otherwise truly stunning design you see in the photo.

Fortunately, it didn’t dampen our fun: we enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing on the couch.

Het natuurhuisje maakt een dubbele indruk. De verbouwing van stal naar lodge is heel mooi en degelijk uitgevoerd. Oude constructiedetails zoals balken zijn mooi behouden gebleven. Er is een mooie mezzanine gemaakt met een bed en luxe bad, er staat een mooie haard in, goed sanitair en fijne keuken. De aankleding steekt daar wel een beetje karig bij af. Een douchegordijn en planchet in de douche ontbreken, en van kook- en servies goed is er van alles precies 4. Soms gebruik je een lepel of vork bij het koken, dus met vier personen is dat onhandig en voelt een beetje als misplaatste zuinigheid. Er is 1 snijplank, dus samen koken wordt dan al lastig. Het zorgt er ook voor dat de vaatwasser twee of drie keer per dag moet draaien, vaak maar halfvol. Dat is niet heel milieuvriendelijk. Dit doet afbreuk aan de verder echt schitterende uitvoering die je ziet op de foto.

Het heeft de pret gelukkig niet gedrukt: we hebben lekker buiten gezeten en gerelaxed op de bank.

The nature house is beautifully situated in the Twente bocage landscape, within biking distance of Delden. It is one of five lodges in a converted barn and is part of the Twickel estate. This is a vast estate featuring a country house and extensive natural and agricultural lands. You’re truly in the countryside here, surrounded by farms, fields, and forests.

The lodges are located next to a farm, but the farm is inhabited by people who have nothing to do with the lodges. Sometimes they give the impression that they don’t want anything to do with the lodges either, which can lead to some awkward situations. It wasn’t a big deal, but it would be helpful to communicate this a bit more explicitly.

Het natuurhuisje is mooi gelegen in het Twentse coulissenlandschap, op fietsafstand van Delden. Het maakt deel uit van 5 lodges in een verbouwde stal en hoort bij landgoed Twickel. Dit is een enorm landgoed met erop een landhuis, en veel natuur- en landbouwgronden. Je zit er echt op het platteland tussen de boerderijen, landerijen en bossen.

De lodges staan bij een boerderij, maar de boerderij wordt door mensen bewoond die niets met de lodges te maken hebben. Soms stralen ze uit dat ze er ook niets mee te maken willen hebben, en dat kan wat onaangename situaties geven. Het was niet storend, maar het is handig om dit iets explicieter te communiceren.

Really had a great time in our cottage, absolutely no regrets, we even wanted to stay a day longer. The wood stove, the hot tub and the old wooden beams gave a very nice atmosphere, thank you very much!

Echt een fijne tijd gehad in ons huisje, absoluut geen spijt van, we hadden zelfs een dag langer willen blijven. De houtkachel, het bubbelbad en de oude houtbalken gaven wel een heel fijn sfeertje, dankjewel
