We’re open Wednesday through Sunday for breakfast, lunch, cake, and drinks, so as a guest, you’ll naturally wake up in the morning to the aroma of fresh coffee. There are no cooking facilities at the B&B, but towels, coffee and tea, and a minibar are provided. We even have a fire pit for a cozy evening under the stars! The price listed is for a booking based on 2 people: additional guests pay 30 per night, including breakfast. Children under 2 years old stay for free at our B&B! Breakfast is included.

Nature and surroundings

If you have any specific questions or requests, we’re happy to help: we’d love to tell you about the history of the place, the beautiful surroundings, and what there is to do, eat, and discover in the region. On and around Forteiland, it’s a wonderful place to relax among the apple and pear trees, the owls and bats, and amidst the countless unique birds! You can walk or run along the water or enjoy the historic monuments at the fort. If you’re not arriving by bike, we have two bikes available for guests to borrow. Our former fort keeper’s house shares the island with a small apiary, a Scout troop, and a luxury restaurant, and is ideally located for hikers, cyclists, or even if you’re traveling by boat! Thanks to our UNESCO status, we’re connected to all kinds of cycling and hiking routes, including the Hollandse Waterlinieroute (the #3 route in the Netherlands). From Utrecht Central Station, it’s just under a 30-minute bike ride along the water to Bij de Fortwachter.

A cozy, colorful B&B in a unique location. The host is friendly, and the space is spacious, with practical amenities. Breakfast is partially set out, but we found the amount of bread a bit sparse for an adult. One area for improvement is the amount of knickknacks and decor. There’s now much more there than what’s shown in the photos. The decor is nice, but it’s become too cluttered, making cleaning difficult. Unfortunately, this was evident: the bathroom trash can hadn’t been emptied, the coffee maker and air fryer drawer weren’t clean, and the lower shower tiles are heavily encrusted with limescale. The cabinets were filled with items, and there were used bathroom products lying around. The sleeper sofa in the living room is uncomfortable, and the refrigerator takes up too much space. The key cabinet is hung at an awkwardly low height. The place itself is really nice, and the location is fantastic. With fewer belongings, better cleaning, and more attention to ease of use, this could be a wonderful place to stay. Right now, the value for money isn’t quite right.

Everything is absolutely excellent. Only concern is that the sleeping divan becomes a challenge for very fussy sleepers but I slept wonderfully. And the double bed is excellent!

Lovely environment and very hospitable welcome by Ann despite small logistical problem. Very tastefully decorated, really nice to stay.
