Sail up the cozy village canal, or to the nearby lakes "Bovenwijde," "Beulakerwijde," and "Belterwijde," or to the beautiful nature reserves of the National Park "Weerribben" and "De Wieden." You can also enjoy swimming in e.g. the Bovenwijde with its cozy "swimming island." The water is shallow (hip height) and nice and warm. The nice towns of Meppel and Steenwijk and the forests of Havelte with its unique dolmens are within cycling distance. You can also walk along the cozy houses and canals to the many cozy restaurants and cafes, where you can also enjoy the beautiful view on the terrace. The authentic village of Giethoorn is the "Venice of the North". The characteristic bridges, village canals, beautiful farms and peat houses with thatched roofs determine the village image. 500 meters from the cottage is a bus stop, and a short 200 meters from the cottage is free parking P6 with ample parking.
