Nature house in Breda

A lovely, peaceful spot. It's wonderful to go swimming in the lake, which is just a 1.5-minute walk away.

Een fijne, rustige plek. Heerlijk zwemmen in het meer op 1,5 minuten lopen.

It's located right in the middle of a small nature reserve. Unfortunately, the trail around the lake was closed during the recreational season.

Ligt middenin een klein natuurgebied. Helaas was het pad rond het meer in het recreatieseizoen gesloten.

The cottage was clean and spacious enough for two people. The couch was comfortable, the bed was cozy, and the amenities (BBQ, large fridge-freezer, combination microwave, plenty of pots, cutlery, and dishes) were all in good condition. The bathroom did smell a bit musty, and the shower water didn’t drain well, but the shower itself was comfortable in terms of water pressure and temperature.

The temperature in the cottage was pleasant, both upstairs and downstairs, partly thanks to the outside temperature, which was around 22 to 23 degrees. But I can imagine that it can get very hot on warm, sunny days. The lack of a screen means you can’t open the windows to air out the place.

Now for the areas for improvement. The staircase is indeed very narrow and steep, but there’s not much that can be done about that. What I find more problematic is the lack of a dishwasher. And there’s also room for improvement in terms of energy efficiency. The back door and front door would benefit from draft stoppers. Solar panels on the roof would make air conditioning possible.

Het huisje was schoon en ruim genoeg voor twee personen. De bank zat prima, het bed lag lekker en de voorzieningen (BBQ, grote koel-vriescombinatie, combimagnetron, voldoende pannen, bestek en servies) waren in orde. De badkamer rook wel wat muffig, en het douchewater liep niet goed weg, maar de douche zelf was wel comfortabel qua waterdruk en temperatuur.

De temperatuur in het huisje was aangenaam, zowel boven als beneden, mede geholpen door de temperatuur buiten, die rond de 22 a 23 graden lag. Maar ik kan me voorstellen dat het met warme zonnige dagen erg warm kan worden. Het ontbreken van een hor maakt dat je de ramen niet openzet om te luchten.

Dan de verbeterpunten. De trap is inderdaad erg smal en steil, maar daar is niet echt wat aan te doen. Bezwaarlijker vind ik het ontbreken van een vaatwasser. En ook qua duurzaamheid kan er wat verbeterd worden. De achterdeur en de voordeur zouden baat hebben van tochtstrips. Zonnepanelen op het dak zouden een airco mogelijk maken.

The cottage is somewhat isolated, which means you won’t be bothered by other people. What is a bit of a shame, though, is that you don’t have direct access to the beaches of the Galderse Meren; to get there, you’ll need to walk 20 minutes or take the car. The same goes for hiking trails; the Mastbos is just over a 5-minute drive away and offers many beautiful trails, but you’ll have to get in the car first to get there. We weren’t bothered by large tractors, the highway in the distance, or the windmills.

Het huisje ligt wat geïsoleerd, wat betekent dat je geen last hebt van andere mensen. Wat wel jammer is, is dat je niet direct toegang hebt tot de stranden van de Galderse Meren, daarvoor moet je 20 minuten lopen of de auto pakken. Hetzelfde geldt voor wandelroutes, het Mastbos ligt op iets meer dan 5 minuten rijden en biedt vele mooie routes, maar daar moet je dus eerst voor in de auto stappen. Van grote tractoren, de snelweg in de verte of de windmolens geen last gehad.

My husband and I enjoyed the peace and quiet and went on some lovely walks in the area.
Our dog Quinn had plenty of space in the fenced-in yard. It was so nice to just let her sniff around, run, and explore. There was no way she could get out—otherwise, she would have let us know ;)

Mijn man en ik hebben genoten, van de rust, heerlijke wandelingen gemaakt in de buurt.
Onze hond Quinn had de ruimte in de omheinde tuin. Zo fijn om haar gewoon lekker te laten snuffelen rennen en onderzoeken. Ze kon er echt niet uit. Want anders had ze het laten weten ;)

What a lovely little house! It was clean. The water in the shower didn't drain very well. The shower tray is big enough, so the bathroom didn't get completely wet.

Wat een fijn huisje! Het was netjes. Het water in de douche liep slecht weg. De douchebak is groot genoeg dus geen hele natte badkamer.
