In 1880, a small farmhouse was built on one of the most remote corners of the Alblasserwaard. It is located on the waterfront in nature reserve De Donkse Laagten. You stay here totally off-grid. There are no connections to water electricity and drainage, back to basics and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Living close to nature. Electricity is provided by solar panels and batteries connected to them. In the cozy living room is a wood stove to keep it warm on a cooler evening. There is a sofa and a fine dining area where you have endless views of the meadow bird sanctuary of the Forestry Commission. In the box bed you will find a lovely double bed and a nostalgic stable window. In the former cheese room is a single bed. The dry toilet is next to the hall in the cowshed. You can take a hot shower 700 meters away at our B&B, there is a luxury bathroom just for you! The farm is accessible by bicycle and on foot.
Nature and surroundings
The Donkse Laagten is an open peat meadow area with great natural history value. There are marshy meadows where rare plants grow and many meadow birds have their nesting place. From the farmhouse you have kilometers of unobstructed views, Birdwatchers and nature photographers are enthusiastic about this environment. Young owls sit in the garden waiting for food. This Natura 2000 area is managed by the Forestry Commission. Nearby you will find Unesco World Heritage Site "The Mills of Kinderdijk" there are beautiful places in the area such as Nieuwpoort, Schoonhoven, Dordrecht and Gouda. The farmhouse is located on walking route "The Pilgrim Trail" and it is a beautiful area to explore by bike.
