Sleep on your very own island! You can do just that in our lockkeeper’s house, built in 1824. A small pedestrian bridge leads to the house (parking is available 150 meters away). The house features a brand-new, cozy kitchen-diner and a spacious living room with a wood stove. There’s a restroom on the ground floor. The upper floor has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The house has its own garden, and the surrounding area offers a wealth of activities. Good to know: It can get quite lively on and around the lock island during the summer. We think it’s important to note that the house isn’t located in the middle of nature, far from civilization. Bed linens are provided in the house; however, towels, dish towels, and dishwasher tablets are not included, so you’ll need to bring your own. Planning to barbecue? Don’t forget your charcoal and fire starters. Extra trash bags and toilet paper are also a good idea. PLEASE NOTE: Ascension Day and Pentecost: minimum stay of 3 nights! Check-out is not possible on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
Nature and surroundings
The house is part of the historic lock complex and is located on the lock island. A bicycle and pedestrian bridge provides access to the island. By the way, we have a handy cart available to help you transport your belongings! On the other side of the dike is a beautiful nature reserve (Natuurmonumenten) where you can enjoy a lovely walk. Prefer to get out on the water? Canoes and electric rowboats are available for rent across the water. Bicycles are also available for rent, and there’s a par-3 golf course and an adventure golf course just 2 km away. Fun cities like Breda and Antwerp are a 40-minute drive away, and Grevelingen Beach is just 20 minutes away. The Zeeland coast is a 45-minute drive away.

It’s not very quiet during the day—there’s a restaurant next door and a wedding/event venue. But that’s okay; we knew that going in. Lots of cyclists and hikers, which is all fine.
The spot is really nice; the house is okay—we didn’t spend much time inside since the weather was beautiful.
The restaurant and other places close at 10:00 p.m., and then it gets really quiet and peaceful.
A downside? The heat and the smell of fries in a couple of bedrooms above the kitchen—I don’t think there’s much you can do about that. The location by the lock offers a nice view of the pleasure boats.Rust is er niet veel overdag, er zit een restaurant naast en een trouw/feestlocatie. Maar dat geeft niet, dat wisten we.
