Datcha “As Dunas” near Nazare on the Atlantic, 1h North of Lisbon:Enjoy a stay in our simple but charming small nature house in the beautiful seaside resort of Sao Martinho do Porto near the famous town of Nazare, the prime location for big wave surfers and excellent fish restaurants.The nature house accommodates up to 4 people in 2 bedrooms. It has a small garden with barbecue hut, a veranda, fireplace, large kitchen, off-street parking, and for winter: central heating. It is 15 min walk from the sea front/beach and the promenade of Sao Martinho do Porto. Recommended travel is by flight to Lisbon and from there by rental car (pretty exactly 1h door-to-door from the airport) or train (Sao Martinho has a station).
Nature and surroundings
Sao Martinho do Porto has a unique, naturally protected bay (see picture above) which is connected to the Atlantic by a ca. 100 m wide opening in the coastal cliffs. This natural miracle gives the town a sea beach with fine sand, clean water, and reduced wave activity, perfect for swimming, also for children. The water is also a few degrees warmer in the bay than it is in the open ocean: one can enjoy the water without wetsuits etc. Windsurfing and sailing is well possible in the bay also for beginners. The climate is mild and neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. The house is on a street with no traffic (dead end). We have to mention, though, that there is a street with traffic a few hundred metres away but it is far enough to be ignored. At night it is very quiet and one can even hear the waves in the distance. The beach can be reached on foot in 15 minutes.
