Nature house in Gieterveen

Located at the foot of the Hondsrug in the Hunze Valley, this detached nature house sits on its own property and features an electric vehicle charging station; it is suitable for four people, such as a family or couples traveling together. Electric bicycles can be charged here. Dogs are welcome! The ground floor has tile flooring. There is a wood-burning stove and a kitchenette with a refrigerator, stovetop burners, a kettle, a Senseo or filter coffee maker, and a microwave/oven. From the kitchen, you look out onto the meadow. The cottage is fully furnished and equipped with bed linens, kitchen linens, towels, toilet paper, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies. Downstairs is a bedroom with a double box-spring bed. The upstairs bedroom is accessible via a fixed staircase and features a double box-spring bed and carpeted floor. Both beds measure 160x200. The living room has a double (sleeper) sofa measuring 160x200. There is a separate toilet and a bathroom with a shower and sink. Free Wi-Fi and TV. A private area of the yard with a wooden fence is set aside for the dog.

In the area, the Gieterveen windmill is worth a visit. On Sundays, a miller is at work. Gieterveen is just within the boundaries of Geopark De Hondsrug, Europe’s largest open-air museum, as the cultural heritage here is right along the road. Think of the hunebeds and other remnants from the Ice Age. A visit to the Hunebedcentrum in Borger by bike is highly recommended. De Drentsche Aa National Park offers a beautiful landscape with its esdorp villages. The river meanders through the Hunze Valley, attracting more birds and bringing otters back to the area. The vast forests with natural ponds attract many families with young children. Those who enjoy small-scale galleries and studios will also find plenty to love here. It’s just an hour’s drive to Lauwersoog, so you can easily spend a day at the beach. Is the sun not shining as much? Cities like Assen (T.T.), Emmen (Wildlands), and Groningen (museums) are all within a half-hour drive. Kids love the Drouwenerzand family park and the outdoor swimming pool in Gieten.
