Nature house in Paterswolde

We are a well-kept secret on an estate in Paterswolde, close to Groningen (eight kilometers). Today you may ignore the sign prohibiting cars through the imposing gate because you are going to spend the night in the middle of the estate. The forest house is decorated by an interior designer, has lots of privacy and is fully equipped: living room, fully equipped kitchen, rain shower, two bedrooms and a spectacular view that, according to our guests, never gets boring. Here you will find complete silence in the forest. At night you can hear the tawny owls and roe deer regularly pass by. In the spring the storks let you know that they are back. In fine weather, slide open the garden doors and eat on the deck on the Leijenloopje, an ancient river that flows into the Paterswoldsemeer (two kilometers). You have a view of a frog pool and there is sun until late at night. Who wants to leave here? Because of its waterfront location, our forest house is not suitable for children.

The estate was laid out in 1825 by the well-known garden architect Lucas Pieter Roodbaard. He was one of the first to create numerous parks and country estates in the English landscape style in the north in the early 19th century. Roodbaard designed the park with winding ponds with many loops and peninsulas in between. The soil released from the ponds was used for hills from which, as a walker, you have beautiful views. In the middle of the park flows the Leijenloop. The forest area has an intimate character with narrow paths that meander through the dense forest. The many paths and vistas over ponds and lawns ensure that the relatively small area of the park is used optimally. On the estate you will find complete silence in the forest. Seven days a week, all year round. Not always the same kind of silence; in spring "disturbed" by clattering storks, later barking deer and brilliant serenades of blackbirds or tapping of the woodpecker. From the forest house you can make excellent walks across the country estate belt, the Onlanden and to the Paterswoldse Meer. The bus stop is within walking distance.
