Nature and surroundings
In the vicinity of Steenbergen are several natural areas. The area outside the dikes is characterized by relatively large height differences at short distances between mudflats and salt marshes and the presence of creeks. This makes the area suitable as a habitat for a multitude of salt and brackish water plants. The specific environment and relative calm also make the area suitable as a breeding, resting and foraging place for various bird species. The area has limited free access, only on the designated path and at the designated time of year. This area is also a Natural Monument and an International Wetland. Around the nature house there are many other nature reserves, such as the Steenbergse Vliet, the creeks Roode Weelcomplex, the nature reserve Gastelsveer and the nature reserve Oost-Graaf Hendrikpolder.
