Nature house in Norg

We had two absolutely wonderful weeks in this charming little cottage. Although the neighbors are just a few meters behind the hedge, we didn’t even notice them. In the morning, you’re woken up by the chirping of birds, not by cars—the peace and quiet is wonderful! The beds are very comfortable, and the house is equipped with everything you need (though a finer strainer for rice and an apron would be nice). But everything from a hair dryer to an extension cord is there, and it seems like every previous guest has left some of their own things behind, so you’ll find things like tea, sugar, or shower gel in the cabinets. You can go for walks—with or without a dog—right in the woods outside the front door, and there are other woods and fields all around if you’d like a change of scenery. However, the fence is only knee- to hip-high, and our little one was able to jump over it easily. The house is clean and cozy—only the ceilings (especially upstairs) could use a good dusting.

Wir hatten zwei ganz wundervolle Wochen in diesem entzückenden Häuschen. Die Nachbarn sind zwar nur wenige Meter hinter der Hecke, aber wir haben sie nicht mitbekommen. Morgens wird man vom Gezwitscher der Vögel geweckt, nicht von Autos - die Ruhe ist herrlich! Die Betten sind sehr bequem, das Haus ist mit allem Nötigen ausgestattet (vielleicht wären nur ein feineres Sieb für Reis und eine Kochschürze nett). Aber vom Föhn bis zum Verlängerungskabel ist alles da und jeder Vormieter scheint auch noch eigene Sachen hinterlassen zu haben, so dass man z. B. noch Tee, Zucker oder Duschgel in den Schränken findet. Spaziergänge mit oder ohne Hund sind direkt vor der Haustüre im Wald möglich und es gibt ringsum noch andere Wälder/Felder, falls man mal variieren möchte. Allerdings ist der Zaun nur knie- bis hüfthoch und unsere Maus konnte ihn einfach überspringen. Das Haus ist sauber und gemütlich - lediglich die Zimmerdecken (besonders oben) könnten mal von Staubweben befreit werden.

The beautiful surroundings offer plenty of opportunities for biking and hiking, and the towns of Assen, Groningen, and Orvelte are definitely worth a visit. On rainy days, there are interesting museums nearby, such as the Drents Museum in Assen or the Veenhuizen Prison Museum. There are several nature reserves in the area that are wonderful for biking or hiking, and the tranquility of the forest is balm for the soul. Yes, there is, of course, a road not far away that you can hear, especially during rush hour, but it’s several hundred meters away—not right on your doorstep. The town of Norg is a thoroughfare—the cafés and restaurants right on the street are correspondingly noisy. But at least there are plenty of them. At De Baander, you’re at least tucked away a bit on a small side street. There are several shopping options—only smokers have no place to buy cigarettes in Norg. The nearest tobacco shop is in Assen.

Die herrliche Umgebung bietet viele Möglichkeiten fürs Radfahren und Wandern und die Orte Assen, Groningen und Orvelte sind auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. An Regentagen gibt es interessante Museen in der Nähe, wie das Drents Museum in Assen oder das Gefängnismuseum Veenhuizen. Es gibt x Naturschutzgebiete in der Umgebung, durch die man wundervoll Radfahren oder Wandern kann und die Ruhe im Wald ist Balsam für die Seele. Ja, es gibt natürlich eine Straße nicht weit entfernt, die man besonders zur Hauptverkehrszeit hört, aber eben in etlichen Hundert Metern Entfernung, nicht direkt vor der Haustür. Der Ort Norg ist ein Durchgangsdorf - die Cafés und Restaurants direkt an der Straße sind entsprechend laut. Aber zumindest sind sie ausreichend vorhanden. Bei De Baander sitzt man zumindest etwas die Ecke herum in einer kleinen Nebenstraße. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind mehrere vorhanden - nur Raucher haben in Norg keine Möglichkeit Nachschub zu kaufen. Nächster Tabakladen ist in Assen.

I arrived at 6:00 p.m., but I couldn’t reach Lies by phone. I sent her a message through the website, but that didn’t work either. Finally, at 8:30 p.m., I was able to get into the cottage with the help of some neighbors from behind. Once inside, Lies accused me of providing a strange email address; her previous messages hadn’t reached me, which is why I couldn’t get in. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much of a chance to tell my side of the story, so as far as I’m concerned, this left me with a rather strained relationship with the hostess. She was also in a great hurry at that moment to continue her evening out with the neighbors.
I tried to enjoy my stay for a few days, but I didn’t think the hygiene was great: a smelly cushion on the couch, a fly screen covered in dust, and red sauce (?) on a white door.

Om 18u aangekomen en telefonisch blijkt Lies niet bereikbaar te zijn. Via de site een berichtje gestuurd, ook dit zonder succes. Uiteindelijk om 20u30 in het huisje binnen geraakt via helpende achterburen. Alhier kreeg ik het verwijt van Lies dat ik een vreemd mailadres opgegeven had, haar eerdere berichten zijn niet bij mij aangekomen, hierdoor kon ik niet binnen. Helaas heb ik weinig kans gehad om mijn kant van het verhaal te vertellen, wat mij betreft dus eerder een troebele relatie met de gastvrouw. Ze was op die moment ook erg gehaast om haar avondje uit bij de buren verder te zetten.
Enkele dagen getracht te genieten maar de hygiëne vond ik niet geweldig, een ruikend kussen in de zetel, een vliegenraam vol met stof, rode saus (?) op een witte deur.

Beautiful surroundings—I can totally understand why people who’ve stayed here have had such a wonderful vacation. Unfortunately, I was a bit bothered by some noisy vacationers from Germany; the houses aren’t very far apart.

Mooie omgeving, ik kan helemaal begrijpen dat er hier al reeds mensen zijn geweest die een mooie vakantie gehad hebben. Ik heb helaas wat hinder ondervonden van luidruchtige vakantiegangers uit Duitsland, de woningen staan niet zo ver uit elkaar.
