The nature house, located in Lexmond, is a completely renovated, original thatcher's house built in 1887. A new garden house was built next to the house in matching style. The charming house is beautifully situated in the middle of nature reserve De Zouweboezem, the most beautiful nature reserve of the Vijfheerenlanden. The nature house offers you peace and privacy in the middle of nature and yet is very centrally located in the Netherlands (Utrecht 30 kilometers, Amsterdam about 60 kilometers). The area is a paradise for hikers, birdwatchers and cyclists. The vacation house is the last house on the street in question in Lexmond. The nature house is very private, one kilometer from other buildings and easily accessible via a paved road. The cottage takes its name from a mill that stood here some thirty years ago.

Nature and surroundings

Nature reserve De Zouweboezem forms a whole with the neighboring duck decoy De Zouwe, Het Hoenderwiel and the Achthoven polder. Grasslands, water and reed beds alternate and together form one large nature reserve. Marsh birds can often be seen up close. The Zouweboezem nature reserve is unique because of the special birds that live there. In the vast reed beds of the Zouweboezem you will find the largest breeding colony of the purple heron in the Netherlands. Marsh birds such as the black tern, spotted crake, cetti's warbler, moustache and marsh harrier also breed here. The area is an important stopover for migratory birds. The area therefore attracts many nature lovers, bird watchers and hikers. From the nature cottage you can walk straight to a bird watching site.

The sofa and chairs in the living room are a bit outdated. A bigger couch, where you can easily lie with 2 people on it, would be nice. But comfortable it certainly is!

Cottage the Frog is a lovely place in the middle of tranquil nature. The authentic cottage has beautiful old details, such as thick wooden doors, and comforts such as a good shower and a new kitchen with good equipment. The pellet stove provides fine warmth. There is plenty of furniture in the cottage: enough bedding, towels, plates and mugs for at least 6 people, games and books. The adjacent gazebo is actually a spacious bedroom with a quality bed and separate toilet. The underfloor heating makes the gazebo a pleasant place to be. We slept wonderfully, woke up to a view of the polder at sunrise and enjoyed the location and tranquility immensely.

The cottage was fine. Some minor notes: - it was not clear to us from the description that 4 of the berths were together in one room - the collection of separate waste was not clear. Was the intention to use the green bins at the cottage or the trash containers further away? There was also no residual waste at the bins at the cottage - the water heater was not working properly. Saturday evening it appeared to be in malfunction. Someone immediately came to help, which we appreciated, but the water was never really hot, rather warm-warm.

We had a fantastic weekend. The Zouweboezem is a beautiful area. The location of the cottage is super!

In the distance cars can be heard and seen on the A27, therefore a 9, but it did not bother us. It's just what you want to hear, but do report it.

A beautiful place, in the middle of nature, very many birds heard and seen, extraordinary, just outside! You can sit in many different places in the garden, enough garden sets for that. Also because of the unique weather enjoyed being outside. Because there was an outbuilding with bed and toilet, our old father could come along and had his own space, he experienced it as very positive.
