The log cabin is beautifully built! A true masterpiece of craftsmanship! We were impressed by the building(s). I had some initial difficulties—I had to get used to the fact that it’s a dark cabin, but it does have a lovely porch and a stunning view. The kitchenette felt too sticky to me—I think because the wrong varnish was used—and the workspace is very small. It’s back to basics, and that’s quite an experience in 2026. Keeping things simple is fine, but it could be cleaner—when I turned on the flashlight, I was really startled by the dust. That could be improved. What’s very impractical is that the fridge and microwave are downstairs. We set up our cooler and used that instead.
We went to Hellendoorn to find a spot near the blooming heather. We succeeded!!! It was a 5-minute drive to Nijverdal, and we also got to enjoy the purple-blooming heather.

It was a week we’ll never forget.

Thank you for your review. It’s great to read that you had a good time. Your comment about the countertop is correct. We chose boiled linseed oil instead of varnish for both the wooden countertop and the table, as well as the exterior. After the season, we’ll apply a coat of matte boat varnish. The cabin is surrounded by 1 hectare of heathland, which makes the location special. However, it’s difficult to keep the cabin completely dust-free; we do our best. The lack of space in the kitchen is why the refrigerator is located on the ground floor. The trees on the sides and back of the cabin add charm and provide shade, even if they do block some light. Guests in these hectic times often appreciate the “back to basics” feel of this self-built cabin.

De boomstamhut is zeer knap gebouwd! Een staaltje vakmanschap! We waren onder de indruk van het gebouw(de). Ik had wat opstart problemen, moest wennen dat het een donkere hut is maar wél met een heerlijke veranda en een schitterend uitzicht. Het keukenblokje plakte mij te veel, ik denk door gebruik van verkeerde lak en de werkruimte is erg klein. Het is back to basic en dat is een hele belevenis in 2026. Alles eenvoudig is prima wel zou het schoner mogen, toen ik de zaklamp aandeed schrok ik echt van het stof. Dat kan anders. Wat zeer onpraktisch werkt is dat de koelkast en magnetron beneden staan. Wij hebben onze koelbox neer gezet en die gebruikt.
We gingen naar Hellendoorn voor een plekje dichtbij de bloeiende heide. Dat is gelukt!!! 5 minuten in de auto naar Nijverdal en daar ook weer genieten van paars bloeiende heide.

Het was een week om nooit te vergeten.

Dank voor jullie review. Fijn te lezen dat jullie het naar het zin hebben gehad. Jullie opmerking over het aanrecht klopt. We hebben zowel op het houten aanrecht als de tafel evenals buitenkant voor gekookte lijnolie gekozen in plaats van lak. We gaan na het seizoen er matte botenlak op doen. Rond de hut ligt 1 ha heide wat de plek bijzonder maakt. Het is echter een lastige hut om geheel stofvrij te houden, we doen ons best ervoor. Ruimte gebrek in keuken is reden dat koelkast in benedenverdieping staat. Bomen aan zij- en achterkant van hut heeft zijn charme en geeft verkoeling ook al kost het wat licht. Back to basic is een deze zelf gebouwde hut weten gasten in deze hectische tijd veelal te waarderen.

Comfortable beds. Beautiful fireplace, small and cozy house, small kitchen with two burners, a surprisingly large basement with a refrigerator, microwave, and oven, and four rooms in the basement. The stairs leading down are narrow, but that’s not a problem for us.

Heerlijke bedden. Prachtige openhaard, klein en knus huis, kleine keuken met 2 pitjes, verrassend grote kelder met daarin koelkast, magnetron en oven En 4 ruimtes in de kelder. Smalle trap naar beneden, maar dat vinden wij geen probleem.

This is my third time staying at this cabin. It's perfect if you love a beautiful, off-grid log cabin without luxuries like a dishwasher. Breathtaking views.

3e keer in dit huisje. Superfijn als je houdt van een prachtige blokhut off grid zonder luxe zoals vaatwasser. Adembenemend uitzicht.

Great little cottage, though it’s low to the ceiling. My husband and son kept bumping their heads.
And it was a shame that we had to use generators for electricity and water.

Geweldig huisje, wel laag. Mijn man en zoon stootten geregeld hun hoofd.
En jammer dat we stroom en water met aggregaten moesten doen.

The peace and quiet and the open space were wonderful.

Rust en ruimte waren geweldig.
