Nature house in Schalkwijk

This nature house is located about three kilometers outside the Utrecht village of Schalkwijk in the municipality of Houten. You reach the house via a narrow farm road between the meadows. The nature house is located in the former field of fire of Lunet aan de Snel (part of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie). The watercourse "De Snel" meanders around the house. The house is equipped for up to six people. The master bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor. Around the house is a beautiful garden with a cozy gazebo. This garden borders on the back of a meadow where sheep or calves walk regularly. At the front is a ditch containing a waterfall and a fish ladder at the level of the access bridge. One canoe is included in the rental of the house. Additional canoes can be rented from the Uijtewaal brothers' farm across the road. The cottage is non-smoking and pets are unfortunately not welcome, assistance dogs excepted. The rate for tourist tax in the municipality of Houten is 4% of the rent and additional costs excluding VAT. This must be paid on the spot.

Nature around the house is beautiful and exudes tranquility. Here you do not have to do anything, but you can. In recent years the municipality of Houten has been busy developing recreational opportunities on "Het Eiland van Schalkwijk". There are canoe routes, cycling routes and footpaths, and from the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie (New Dutch Waterline) a lot has been done, making it even more fun to spend a few days (or longer) here. Lunet aan de Snel, Fort Honswijk and the Werk aan de Korte Uitweg are within walking distance and are part of the "Stelling van Honswijk". The nature house is located about two kilometers from the river De Lek. During the summer season you can take a pedestrian ferry to the other side (Culemborg/Everdingen/Vianen). Several years ago a recreational lake was built, called the Honswijkerplas, where you can enjoy swimming, fishing and boating. If you still want some more entertainment, Houten (eight kilometers), Wijk bij Duurstede (15 kilometers) and Utrecht (17 kilometers) are nearby. Over the nearby farmlands also runs a clog path route to the village. Clogs on, backpack on and go!
