In Twente, farms were often leased from estate owners. The "high lords" did want to be able to hunt on their own property. To gather before and after, they had Heerenkamers at the leased farms at their disposal. This nature cottage is such'a Heerenkamer, in the middle of nature reserve the Witte Veen, dating from around 1905. The accommodation can accommodate four-five people and was restored in 2015. The cozy living kitchen is reminiscent of the past, but equipped with all necessary and modern amenities. From the kitchen you enter the veranda, a lovely place where you will find coolness in hot weather and shelter in rain and wind. The living room with wooden floor has a wood-burning stove, which provides cozy warmth. The high ceilings and warm colors make the nature cottage both spacious and bright and intimate and cozy. Upstairs are two bedrooms with box-spring beds. The largest bedroom has a third bed. The bathroom has a second toilet, sink and shower.
Nature and surroundings
A wild and boundless nature reserve. Smugglers used to wander through the inaccessible White Bog. Now the area is so special that it is part of a European network of nature reserves. The most beautiful circular walk also crosses the border. In two hours you stroll along boardwalks through a beautiful nature reserve with rough grasslands, pools, heathland, forest and raised bog. There are viewpoints at several places. A herd of Scottish Highlanders ensures that the area does not become overgrown. You will get a real foreign feeling when you visit water mill De Haarmühle. At this 300 year old inn you can enjoy the Buurserbeek and delicious local dishes on the terrace. The Witte Veen connects seamlessly with other nature reserves and estates, such as the Buurserzand, Haaksbergerveen and Lankheet. Natural areas around Enschede can also be reached within half an hour.
