Nature house in Egmond aan den Hoef

This architect-designed nature house is located on a small dead-end road, right in the middle of the flower fields. The spacious garden offers both shaded areas and spots in full sun. The rounded roof (with a solar collector) makes the house unique while allowing it to blend seamlessly into its surroundings. In front of the house is a large terrace, partly covered by the roof. To the left of the entrance is the living room with an open kitchen equipped with various appliances. It features a sofa, some comfortable chairs, a spacious dining table, and a piano. The floor tiles are the same as those on the terrace, creating a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. Thanks to the underfloor heating, it’s always cozy inside during the winter. The three bedrooms have double beds. There is a spacious bathroom with a bathtub, shower, toilet, and sink. The upstairs rooms, which feature a large balcony, offer sweeping views. The patio is furnished with a wooden table and two wooden benches. There are also comfortable garden chairs (with cushions) and a folding table.

There’s plenty to do right here: biking, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and sunbathing. The sea and the quiet beach are within walking or biking distance, right through the dunes, where Scottish Highland cattle and wild horses are permanent residents. Bergen aan Zee and Egmond aan Zee are the nearest beach towns. By bike, you can visit the “old” Hondsbossche Zeewering, now shielded by new dunes. To the south, the dunes stretch almost all the way to the North Sea Canal. An admission ticket is required for the Waterleidingduinen. From Schoorl, a trip along the western part of the Westfriese Omringdijk is a lovely way to cross the countryside. There are riding stables nearby where you can go horseback riding. Gasterij ’t Woud, a café-restaurant at the entrance to the dune area, has a small playground. Within biking and even walking distance lies Egmond aan den Hoef, with shops and an old village center flanking the castle ruins.
