Nature house in Balkbrug

In a place where time seems to pass more slowly you will find this nature house. Winding between Overijssel and Drenthe, De Reest has marked the provincial borders for centuries. Long disputed and therefore left alone. Here 'poldering' and land consolidation have had no grip on nature. In the hamlet of Oud Avereest (three kilometers from Balkbrug) lies on the edge of the unique and varied nature reserve with forests, heaths and fens the estate on which the nature house is located. The nature reserve is home to badgers, foxes, deer, birds of prey, storks, owls, egrets and numerous other bird species. Rare plants and flowers are also still plentiful in the authentic stream valley. The estate is located in one of the darkest and quietest places in the Netherlands. The nature house is located on an old church path and under ancient beech trees. For those who want to combine the natural beauty with trips to old villages like Ruinen, Dwingeloo, Giethoorn or like to indulge in culinary delights, it is ideally located. To get to the nature house you have to cross an unpaved yard, walking shoes may be wise in this regard.
Nature and surroundings
Where outdoor living comes inside. From this nature house you have a panoramic view of the Reest valley. On the other side are forests, moors and fens. Several hiking trails (including the church path) take you directly from the property along sand ridges, farms and old hamlets. Towards Zuidwolde the area slowly changes into woods and small-scale arable farming. Towards Ommen and Balkbrug you will find country estates and woods that slowly change into differences in height, such as the Lemelerberg. The state forests of Staphorst are within cycling distance (about 10 minutes). For the quiet enjoyer there are numerous hiking trails and cycling nodes from the house. For those who want to challenge themselves there are plenty of mountain bike trails in the immediate vicinity. The bikes can be stored in the barn. And what could be better than sitting by the wood stove in the evening after an active day outside? Or in fine weather on the terrace (with fireplace) to enjoy the storks and the view? And for those who still want to enjoy some after: near the nature house are several short hiking trails for a wonderful evening walk.
