Nature house in Zutendaal

We had a very pleasant stay at the cottage. We enjoyed the quiet and the campfire.

A very pleasant stay—beautiful location

Simple, yet fully equipped. Plenty of space for two people. The porch was wonderful. It was nice to sit outside, even when it rained.

Eenvoudig, maar van alle gemakken voorzien. Voldoende ruimte voor 2 personen. De veranda was heerlijk. Lekker buiten zitten, ook als het regent.

The cottage smelled very musty upon arrival, and the smell didn’t go away even with the door open. Furthermore, it seems as though nothing has been done to the cottage or the garden for years. The exterior of the cottage was poorly maintained, the mattress was sagging, and the shower didn’t work properly for the first two days (cold water after just one minute). The garden is overgrown, and the dense vegetation blocks all the light at the front. The picnic table has rotten spots, the patio is very uneven, and the shed is a giant spiderweb. It may be a nature house, but that doesn’t exempt you from the obligation to do some maintenance; it’s actually scandalous that it’s being rented out in this condition.

Response from the landlord:

Thank you for the detailed feedback. Regarding the bed: there is a fairly new, firm mattress topped with a fairly new soft mattress topper; in our listing, we mention that the mattress topper can be removed upon request. The garden is maintained regularly, but we’ve made a conscious choice to let nature take its course—that’s, of course, a matter of personal taste; other maintenance is also performed regularly, and the shower was checked after your report and is working perfectly. We’re sorry that your stay didn’t meet your expectations, but we don’t recognize the picture painted here.

Het huisje rook bij aankomst erg muf wat ook met de deur open niet verdween. Verder lijkt het alsof er jaren niets aan het huisje en de tuin gedaan is. De buitenkant van het huis was slecht onderhouden, de matras doorgelegen en ook de douche functioneerde de eerste twee dagen niet naar behoren (al na een minuut koud water). De tuin is niet onderhouden en de overvloedige begroeiing neemt alle licht weg aan de voorkant. De picknicktafel vertoont rotte plekken, het terras is erg ongelijk en de schuur is een grote spinnenweb. Het mag dan een natuurhuisje zijn, het ontslaat je niet van de verplichting iets aan onderhoud te doen; eigenlijk schandalig dat het in deze staat verhuurd wordt.

Reactie vanuit de verhuurder:

Dank voor de uitgebreide feedback. Wat betreft het bed: er ligt een vrij nieuw, stevig matras met daarop een vrij nieuw zacht topmatras; in onze informatie vermelden we dat het topmatras desgewenst afgenomen kan worden. De tuin wordt regelmatig onderhouden, maar we kiezen er bewust voor de natuur de ruimte te geven — dat is uiteraard een kwestie van persoonlijke smaak; ook het overige onderhoud vindt regelmatig plaats en de douche is na de melding gecontroleerd en functioneert prima. We vinden het jammer dat het verblijf niet aan je verwachtingen voldeed, maar we herkennen ons niet in het beeld dat hier weergeven wordt.
