The yard on which this nature house is located is in the middle of National Park De Weerribben with a fantastic view over the waving reed plumes and lakes in the hamlet Hoogeweg. This consists of a handful of houses along the only narrow road that winds between peat pools and reeds through De Weerribben. Along this idyllic road are the characteristic peat cottages with small bridges that color this area so picturesquely. In the yard are three separate accommodations: a stylish apartment, a garden room and this detached nature house. The yard is hidden among the reeds and offers plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the sun and nature undisturbed. The nature house concerns the detached, thatched nature house at the back of the property, equipped with a spacious open kitchen and bathroom with bathtub and shower. A spacious, cozy sitting area in the conservatory with patio doors to private garden with decking terrace. It can accommodate four people. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. In the first bedroom there is a double bed. In the other bedroom there is a single bed and there are two bedsteads.

Nature and surroundings

This nature house stands in the middle of the wild nature of National Park Weerribben-Wieden, where peace, space and nature come together. The narrow road along the plot is the only access road to the village of Kalenberg, about two kilometers away in the middle of the Weerribben. Daily enjoy a phenomenal view over the peat lakes (migration holes) with waving reeds and many birds. Here you will still find peace and quiet that are only broken by the sound of swans, geese and cormorants. The cottage is situated in the hamlet Hoogeweg/Kalenberg which consists of a handful of houses and café De Weerribben. From here one can sail by canoe or boat directly into the area. For cyclists there are several bicycle routes in the area. Adventurous hikers walk via the boot path into the area, where one can cross the canal using a draw ferry. Of course, this nature reserve is a sought-after destination for nature lovers. In several places in the national park, for example, there are bird-watching huts. Besides many birds, this area is known as the habitat of many deer, special dragonflies and the otter, which was released here years ago.

Finely decorated cottage with everything you need. Lovely enclosed garden. You also don't notice anything from other guests in the guesthouses in and near the main building. "My" cottage is separate from that - nice for privacy. Hanneke, the hostess, turned out to be, besides being a good hostess, also an excellent baker! Upon arrival I was given coffee with delicious homemade butter cake and to my surprise she had also baked me a delicious turban! For my birthday which I celebrated that week. She also lent me a walking map - great! Yet hiking with the dog in the immediate area was not easy: the existing trails were mostly closed to hikers because of the breeding season. On other paths dogs were not welcome. And then "walking the dog" in the neighborhood becomes a bit "back and forth" on a paved bike path. Fortunately, we were able to take a nice walk near Ossenzijl; my dog and I.

    Nature, peace & environment: 5 /5

The cottage is located on a road where (during my stay- in early June) it was mostly very quiet. Sometimes a little more traffic- on 1 day quite a lot of motorcycles. But mostly cyclists, which did not bother me. The garden, where you are more focused in the cottage anyway, is at the back, where you experience more peace of the surroundings.

This is a tastefully decorated house with many amenities. A nice large kitchen, with table for 6. Lying on a main road but we have not been bothered by the traffic, it was very quiet. Unfortunately we could not go cycling because of our dog but the area is beautiful with newly constructed bike paths. Also nice places (villages) in the area and many opportunities to go boating. The owner was very friendly, helpful and easily accessible.
