Nature and surroundings
The nature house is located on a sandy path with a view of the Holterberg. From the nature house, you can walk or bike along the forest trails and sandy paths to De Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park, with its beautiful forests and heathland. Right from the nature house, you’ll find bike paths with cycling routes, mountain biking trails, and horseback riding trails. Next to the nature house is the well-known Dondertman petting zoo, where guests enjoy free admission. Here, children can pet the animals, go down the slide, ride go-karts, take a pony ride, and go for a ride in a covered wagon. Four horses graze in the pasture, and horseback riding lessons are available by arrangement. Horseback riding is offered at the riding school, which organizes trail rides across the Sallandse Heuvelrug. Within biking distance is the Holterberg Nature Diorama, home to the largest collection of European animal species. In the summer, the Twenhaarsveld outdoor pool is ideal. It features a large slide and a 25-meter pool with a diving board. A crib, high chair, and children’s bicycle are available to borrow upon request. Bicycles can be rented at the bike shop in Holten; they will then be delivered to the cottage.
