The nature house is situated in a lovely spot on the edge of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, with the village of Diever within walking or biking distance. The cottage’s immediate surroundings—with the forest, sandy paths, and the bocage landscape on the es—have captured many hearts. The cottage features a spacious terrace surrounded by a private garden, a living room with an open kitchen and a fireplace, a small yet functional bathroom with a toilet, and two bedrooms. One bedroom has a 160 double bed, and the other has two single beds and a sink. The front door is reached via about ten steps. In the spring, you can enjoy watching the birds and listening to their songs from the terrace. Diever is known for its Shakespeare plays, which have been performed every summer since 1946 at the open-air theater and the Globe Theater.
Nature and surroundings
Diever is the ideal starting point for exploring the beautiful old forests, fens, sand drifts, heathland, meadows, and dolmens around Diever by bicycle, mountain bike, or on foot. Diever is centrally located between the Drents-Friese Wold and Dwingelerveld National Parks, but heading toward Vledder, Uffelte, Havelte, Ruinen, or the Fochteloërveen (cranes), it’s also wonderful to cycle along the many bike paths that Southwest Drenthe has to offer. There are several challenging mountain bike trails starting from Diever, Appelscha, and Dwingeloo. The Drenthepad passes through Diever and runs past the beautiful Aekingerzand, among other places, where you can hear the skylarks singing in the summer. The Prison Museum in Veenhuizen and the De Koloniehof Museum (Society of Benevolence) in Frederiksoord are highly recommended.
