East of Deventer lies this beautiful estate. You will stay in this beautiful nature house. Together with nature house 26057 (ten persons) these two houses form the hunting houses. The house is largely in its original state with a small extension for a shower and toilet. The whole house is made of wood and therefore fits into the atmosphere of the environment everywhere. For heat you must first fire up the wood stove, after which soon the whole house becomes pleasantly warm. The dining room is connected to the living room with sliding doors. Also, from the living room you enter the kitchen where you can prepare your meal simply but very atmospherically. There are two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a bunk bed. You can stay in the house with four people, but even with two people the atmosphere remains intimate. If you walk along the rhododendrons to the house you can just see a few deer in the field.
Nature and surroundings
Until the 19th century the area where the nature houses are located partly consisted of wild groves. The Hottinger map from around 1785 shows the area as the "Bathmenerheyde", an area not yet cultivated. The map of 1882 already shows a largely cultivated area, with forests and agricultural land in addition to heathland. So there is a young landscape here. One person who left an important mark on the current estate was Abraham Capadose, born in 1859. This former president commissioner of the Royal Oil bought a large part of the area around 1900 to practice (rabbit) hunting. Capadose was not interested in the estate as a residence. Therefore, he did not build a mansion or landscaping in the area. His purpose was hunting. He had two hunting houses installed and planted many rhododendron bushes to provide shelter for the game. The hunting houses are still there and are now rented out recreationally. The rhododendrons are a sight to behold in May and June. In 1967, the municipality of Deventer, Stichting Burgerweeshuis en Kinderhuis and the Verenigde Gestichten jointly purchased the estate from Mr. Birnie, director of the exploitation company Davo. Around 1980, the Verenigde Gestichten becomes undivided owner. IJssellandschap has two pillars in the area: agriculture and forestry. Some of the agricultural land is leased from companies on their own farms or is leased by farmers who do not occupy IJssellandschap farms. The forests are exploited by the Foundation itself. Based on species composition and age structure of the trees in the forest, wood is periodically harvested from the complex through forest management. The highest degree of nature protection is stipulated in the Nature Protection Act. The 7-hectare area de Slenk is an area designated by the government as such an area to be protected. Along the Lettelerleide, IJssellandschap has decided to convert the meadows into nature. Together with water board Groot Salland and the Province of Overijssel we looked for possibilities to give the natural qualities a positive impulse, this resulted in excavations in the low parts which in turn led to the development of special and rare plant species. It is a beautiful and open forest meadow where many natural values have developed, partly due to years of efforts by KNNV volunteers. The area De Slenk is not open to the public but one can walk along it by means of a footpath which provides a good view of the open landscape.
