Nature and surroundings
The nature house is located in the village Zaježová, where the houses are far apart, surrounded by meadows and forests. The color of the meadows changes with the time of year. Game such as deer, pheasants, rabbits, foxes and wild boars are also regularly spotted here. Bears also live in the forest, but fortunately rarely anyone encounters them. There is plenty to see and do in the area. The owners have plenty of tips for fun days out. Activities such as canoe trips are regularly organized. In winter it is very suitable for cross-country skiing. There are also ice skating and ski slopes in the area. For daily shopping you can go to the local shop. You can also buy farm products in the village such as eggs, fresh milk, cheese, homemade jam and honey. There is a small supermarket 10 kilometers away and cities such as Zvolen (30 kilometers) and Banská Bystrica (50 kilometers) offer extensive shopping. Both Zvolen and Banská Bystrica have a nice square with terraces and restaurants. But for a real nice dinner you can go to the village for a Slovak/Dutch diner. The forests consist mainly of deciduous trees. Slovakia has especially many beech forests. Nearby is a very old oak forest that has been declared a protected area. There are also a number of small lakes where you can swim. In several places there is a spring with healing water, sometimes even with bubbles, where one can tap water for free. The mountains here belong to the Ore Mountains. The area used to be a volcanic area with some larger craters. Mount Javorie was one of those craters and, at 1043 meters, is the highest mountain in the area. The owner also offers day trips such as canoeing, visits to a sheep farm and, in the future, several fun organized day trips.
