Furtwangen is located approx. 30km east of Freiburg and is the highest city in Baden-Württemberg. At between 850 m and 1,150 m above sea level, it's a scenic and attractive part of the upper Bregtal in the heart of the Black Forest, in the headwaters of the Danube. Plenty of sights and a diverse range of recreational and cultural activities make this city of clocks so liveable and endearing. The pristine nature of the Black Forest and its wide range of recreational activities will delight recreation seekers and active holidaymakers alike. Excursion destinations that people gladly come back to again and again include the "German Clock Museum", the Hexenlochmühle, St. Martin's Chapel or Furtwangen's local mountain, the Brend. In summer, you have the choice between, among other things, hiking, swimming, cycling, tennis (indoor and outdoor courts), horseback riding, fishing. In winter, activities range from skiing at the several ski lifts, over 50km of groomed cross-country ski trails to winter hiking. A ski resort with drag lift is only 500m away. Ski and toboggan rental in Furtwangen (5km). Several alpine ski areas can be found within a radius of 15-20km. The largest ski area, the Feldberg, is around 40km away. Here in the district of Neukirch, about 5km south of Furtwangen, there's a typical Black Forest-style house on the outskirts of town, in a sunny hillside location with a beautiful view. The apartment is nicely, cosily furnished and is located on the 1st floor with balcony. The "KONUS Guest Card" is included in the visitor's tax and entitles you to free use of the buses and trains throughout the Black Forest as well as free entry into numerous tourist facilities (museums, pools, etc.).
