Bornholm accommodation

Bornholm is a small island in Denmark mostly known as a place of remarkable craftsmanship. The Sunny Island is a great vacation destination for the summer and autumn months, as the climate is mild and weather outside is more than enjoyable. This interesting phenomenon results from the unique characteristics of the black rock formations which preserve the summer heat and warm the air all through the fall.

The accommodation options in Bornholm are various, nevertheless all are located in rural or secluded areas where you will be able to fully rest surrounded by only nature. All amenities are contemporary and ensure your comfort during your stay, while the hosts are amicable and will gladly help you whether you have questions and considerations with regards to your accommodation, or simply seek their advice for the best places to see nearby.

Discover the Baltic nature of Bornholm

After you have carefully chosen the perfect accommodation based on your preferences, it is time to make a travel plan. Despite being quite small, this island has so much to offer in terms of natural wonders and activities. The nature of this island is truly remarkable and it is impossible to disagree even if you only visit Almindingen. This is a large forest area right at the heart of Bornholm. This natural oasis is often referred to as “Disneyland” for nature enthusiasts. Steep cliffs, some of which are hundreds of meters high, seem as if they have embraced Ekkodalen – a rift valley created by the tectonic movements of our planet.

Hammeren on the other hand is a protected area which includes the largest lake on the island – Hammersø. The area is located in the northernmost part of the island and provides plenty of options for hikes as well as many beautiful panoramic views of the Baltic Sea. The only glacial lake on Dane land is also on the premises of this protected area – Stejlebjerg.

What is an island without its beaches? The coastal areas are various – from cliffs and coves to flat beaches, you can find anything here. One of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches is Antoinette Beach. The beach is a few hundred meters long and one of the longest on the island. Two lighthouses, some dunes and a beautiful coastline will welcome you here.

Activities

Plenty of hiking paths are available in Almindingen forest. There are also many small villages which are interconnected by widely used trails, which are also suitable for cycling. Birdwatchers will also love the Almindingen forest as numerous watch towers have been erected for ornithologists. Mountain biking is another popular sport especially in the area under Rytterknægten – the highest point on the island.

Windsurfing is a great activity for adrenaline seekers. Bornholm’s beaches are windy and provide the best conditions for a fun day in the water. Rock climbing can also spike your adrenaline levels up. The unique rocky scenery of this island offers many great rock climbing spots – especially the rift valley Ekkodalen. Sea Kayaking is also very popular among the locals: they love to go near the beach and hang out on the small rocks near the shore called skerries.
