Autumn Vacation

Autumn is way less popular of a season for tourists to visit Europe on their vacation. Nevertheless, we believe that autumn is in fact maybe the best time of the year for a trip through the Old Continent. Most of the season has passed, the atmosphere is much quieter and calmer, and you can get a way more realistic representation of real life in Europe.

When choosing your stay for an autumn vacation, take into consideration the specific fall weather conditions of your region of choice. Make sure to pack an umbrella, or even better – a raincoat and always take it with you on your adventures. However, if you pick your timing well enough, you might not even need it. The guest houses available for an autumn vacation are ready to meet all your needs, while providing you with some of the best views and locations for a stay among nature. Make sure to also ask the hosts about day trip suggestions and get ready for an unforgettable adventure full of color.

The masterpieces of Mother Nature

Among the perfect places for an October holiday is the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park & The Algarve in Portugal. This amazing autumn destination includes deserted beaches, open spaces suitable for picnics, and many coastal hiking trails to get your blood going. During the fall season, from the top of the cliffs an unforgettable view awaits those who dare to go there – the mighty Atlantic rolls slamming into the rocks creating a unique spectacle for this time of the year.

Dive into the Spanish charm by heading to Andalusia in the fall. Except for having much less tourists, therefore being way calmer, this part of Spain is cooler, yet sunny during autumn. The ancient Moorish architecture is captivating, but Andalusia can offer you much more in terms of its nature, too. One of the most distinctive forests in the world is the Rock Forest in El Torcal De Antequera. Although essentially this is not a real forest, as it is made of huge limestone rock formations, this place is remarkable for the abundance of plant and tree species which have adapted to life on the rocks. Oaks, Mountain ash trees, Maple trees have started growing in between the cracks on the rocks. The combination of the rocks, the vegetation, the Spanish blue sky, create an amazing atmosphere filled with colors through the autumn months.

How to enjoy the best of autumn

Through the wildest parts of Portugal, you can hike the whole or part of the Fisherman’s Trail or Rota Vicentina. This hike goes on for more than 200 km, presents you with the best views of the Atlantic rolls and amazing panoramas of the rock formations on this beautiful Atlantic coast.

Except for obviously enjoying the views and the power of Mother Nature in the Rock Forest, you can also explore some of the caves and underground forms. Cueva del Toro is covered with Neolithic artifacts, therefore making it a specific interest to tourists and a site of historical significance. There is a visitor center to equip you will all the information you may need, as well as three hiking trails of different lengths, and many viewpoints providing stunning panorama views.
