Beautiful nature hidden in between historical areas

For a unique medieval experience like no other, the Den Brandt Castle offers visitors to Antwerp a chance to take a stroll through its amazing gardens. Used as a garden of pleasure for the wealthy families in the past, today this park is open to everybody. Although visitors tend to enjoy the Dancing Nymphs statue, we promise you that the English Garden is the place to be.

Rivierenhof is a nature oasis in the city. The park is gigantic and locals love it! A serene nature and a quiet atmosphere welcome all visitors and in the summer you can take part in the cultural festival activities, including live music and an open-air theatre.

Plantentuin Antwerp is one of the most famous gardens in Europe. They have a history of more than 200 years, starting off with only herbs meant for the nearby hospital, and even today, there are more than 2,000 herb species. You can also find a breathtaking collection of flowers and trees from all around the world, including some tropical species.

Discover Belgium through these activities

If you embark on a trip to Antwerp in the company of your children, there is a great place near the city, where their love for nature will be nurtured through fun activities throughout the whole day. Children’s farm Mikerf is not simply a farm, but also an educational center. Your child can feed the animals, harvest fruits or even help in the farm bakery shop.

A dense network of canals crosses the city underneath its streets. It was covered piece-by-piece through hundreds of years and today is known as the Antwerp Ruinen. These canals are filled with water from the Scheldt River flowing nearby and you can only visit them on guided tours when the river has receded and the water level is low.

For a day full of activities, head to Kattevennen – a beautiful park where you can go horseback riding, play mini-gold, and visit the Heempark to watch the animals there. There are plenty of hiking options which lead you through the pine forests, the valleys and along the small streams and let you discover the beauty of Kattevennen in peace and quiet. In the Cosmodrome you can watch the stars with the help of the planetarium staff guiding you.
