Agriturismo Valle d’Aosta

Aosta valley or Valle d’Aosta is an Italian province in the north-west part of the country. The region shares borders with two other European countries – France and Switzerland; this is the smallest region in Italy. Although Italian and French are the official languages, only about 1% of the population speaks French as their mother tongue. In fact, more people speak the local dialect called Valdotain. The whole valley is located in the Alps and includes the two most prominent Alpine peaks – Mont Blanc and Matterhorn.

The Alpine scenery will definitely be a great place to wake up in the morning. Agritourism will allow you to get acquainted with the local culture and traditions. The Aosta valley has a rich agricultural past and present. Local farmers are mainly milk producers, have orchards or vineyards. The region is known for having some of the highest terraced vineyards of up to 1200 m) and are famous for their high quality wine. By booking your agritourism vacation here you can be sure that you will have a lot of fun while experiencing real country life in Italy.

The whole Aosta valley region is considered as a natural heritage for the Italians. Many protected areas under the Natura-2000 scheme create a network of alpine ecosystems and botanic gardens with unique plant and flower species.

Gran Paradiso is the first Italian national park. It is an enormous area stretching from 800 m to 4000 m in height in the mountain. There are three visitor centers where you can learn plenty about the specific nature in the area. The villages of Cogne, Valsavarenche and Rhêmes-Notre-Dame are located in the park premises. In Cogne, a special botanical garden of alpine vegetation welcomes visitors from all over the world. There are also many animal species which you can observe here – a steinbock, a chamois, as well as birds such as the golden eagle.

The Lake Villa Nature reserve is a territory of 25 hectares with low mountain lakes and marshes. The lake waters are home and main reproduction area to reptiles, fish and birds. The water is also covered in two very rare plants – white waterlily and an amphibian lily. This is a great place for a day trip, as the hiking paths will take you through the dry areas and the marshes, along the lake shore and up the hills for a spectacular panorama of the reserve.

Activities

The Aosta Valley region with its mountainous scenery is perfect for activities such as trekking, mountain biking, mountaineering, rock climbing, rafting and so on. Trekking routes are usually a day-long trip underneath the giant peaks of the Alps. There are numerous mountain huts which offer food and rest, as well as even more bivouacs where you can have your own picnic on top of Europe.

Dora Baltea River and the alpine streams in Aosta Valley create great conditions for rafting. The descents are thrilling and not for the faint of heart. Kayaking and canoeing are also popular.
