Accommodation Auvergne

Auvergne is a former region in France, now part of the bigger Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region. This historical area is most famous for the volcano chain “Chaine des Puys”. The region is mainly mountainous, especially its central and southern parts, while to the north the landscape is mostly hilly. The nature of this French region is stunning and unique even for the diverse landscape of the country.

You can book a cottage, a chalet or a French gite in the region of Auvergne and enjoy the French nature. Our accommodations are equipped with everything you might need for your stay, ensuring that you will have a pleasant stay. Your hosts will welcome you and will be happy to interact with you. You can learn a lot about the local history and culture from them and even get some advice on places to visit in the area.

The nature of Auvergne

While we definitely love them, there is much more to France than just the typical site of a small town filled with summer villas and their vineyards. The nature of the Auvergne region is spectacular and the Auvergne Volcano national park is a testimony to that, providing an unforgettable experience to its visitors. Volcanoes, thousands of years old, covered in grass and beautiful deep valleys underneath them. The contrast between the emerald grass hills and the “Bleu de France” (blue) color of the sky has inspired many artists from around the globe in creating their form of art.

Two beautiful rivers cross Auvergne – Loire and Allier – with the latter forming a series of gorges across the mountain range. In the region you can experience the beautiful symbiosis between high rock formations, many gorges and wide valleys. However, the most spectacular landscape welcomes you in the Auvergne National Park on top of the thousand-years-old volcanoes. The panoramic views of Puy de Dôme - the highest volcano in the region – are simply out of this world.

Activities

Auvergne is also rich in other water resources such as lakes, swamps and ponds the result of volcanic activity – some of them you can discover on one of the many hiking trails to the peaks. Other activities you can enjoy in the region or nearby also include paragliding with an instructor (or without one if you are experienced), horseback riding, canoeing along the calm parts of the Allier River, or rafting through its gorges.

The trail network in the national park is vast and includes routes with different level of difficulty. All the trails eventually open up to amazing panoramas, especially the ones from on top of Puy de Dome. If you want to see the view, but you feel like you need a rest, you can still reach the top. Take the Panoramique des Domes cog railway, which will transport you comfortably to the top.

If you visit during the hot summer months, you can take a day to enjoy the fresh waters of Lac Chambon lake resort. You can rest on the sandy beach or enjoy the zipline and the water activities available on sight.
