Tent Dordogne
Dordogne is a French region, a popular destination and a place where you could experience two of France’s best highlights – nature and the food. The region is named after a river crossing the area and it is best known for the Lascaux cave with wall paintings, which have been dated from approximately 17,000 years ago. These ancient paintings are not the only well-preserved attraction in the region – the nature here is well taken care of, too. Dordogne offers visitors the unique possibility to wander through beautiful nature and finish the day trying delicious dishes in this gastronomy center!
How about a wilder accommodation for this trip? Our tents are situated in wonderful areas with access to facilities, where you will feel reconnected with nature, without compromising your comfort. You can choose between a more secluded setting, or a campsite with tents where you will have the chance to meet many people from all around the world.
The nature of Dordogne
The Dordogne Valley is a unique natural spot, filled with numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Of course, the most famous among them is the Lascaux cave. Lascaux is an interesting underground cave network with more than 600 cave paintings of unseen quality. They are presumed to be from the Paleolithic era. There are tours of the caves, which will teach you a lot about the meaning behind the drawings and the importance of Lascaux as an archeological monument for the country and the world as a whole.
Many people visit Dordogne for its beaches, as the region is a famous Mediterranean holiday destination. However, in our opinion, one of the highlights of the area is not so much the coastal area, as the riverbank of Dordogne. It is a recognized UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The river travels through France for more than 500 km. Except for the river Dordogne, there are also two more large rivers passing through the area, as well as many lakes, waterfalls, and springs.
Perigord-Limousin is a regional nature park with exceptional wildlife for you to admire. Auvezere, Dordogne and Vezere flow through the area, creating a complex and intertwined network of green valleys – the perfect habitat for numerous plant and animal species and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Activities in the area
Dordogne is a famous destination not only for gastronomists, but also for hikers. There are more than 700 km of long-distance routes and around 4,000 km of shorter ones. On any of these routes you will be able to discover not only Dordogne’s nature, but also its cultural and historical heritage altogether.
You can explore the countryside by taking the country lanes; cycle through the valleys and meadows and discover the diverse landscape of Dordogne; or take one of many cycle paths and find out more about the region’s culture and history by passing by and learning all about the renaissance towns and castles.
On top of visiting Lascaux, you can also head to Grotte des Merveilles or the Padirac Cave, which are also stunning in terms of their beauty and historical significance.
