Last minute Sardinia holidays

Italy is among the most popular destinations and usually everything is booked months in advance. Nevertheless, sometimes destiny calls and you can find a last minute accommodation. If you have never been to Italy and you are wondering about taking this opportunity – don’t! Italy has amazing nature, a combination of gigantic mountain ranges and a Mediterranean coast which are there to enchant you with their bright colors and clean air.

Last minute nature houses will take you on an unexpected adventure on one of Italy’s most beautiful islands –Sardinia – a true natural paradise where you will be able to enjoy mountains, forests, beaches and great panoramas all at once. While the island is mostly known for its long beaches and upscale resorts, there is so much more to it, especially in terms of natural wonders!

The nature of Sardinia

Did you know that more than 2/3 of the island is covered by hills and mountains, while the rest enjoys the shade of dense vegetation and forests? The largest Mediterranean forest in the world can be found here – Sulcis Regional Park. It is a Geominerary Park with historical and environmental significance recognized by UNESCO.

The beaches of Sardinia are definitely the most popular reason for tourists to come to the island. The coast is very long and each side of the island will welcome you with a distinctive coastline. While it is true that once the weather warms up, the beaches start filling up, there are also some of them which are relatively calmer. One such example is the La Pelosa beach near Stintino – with its unique bright white color it creates a beautiful contrast to the turquoise waters of the sea.

Foresta Di Montes is another gorgeous natural wonder on the island. This extensive forest has been recognized as a permanent oasis of wildlife protection. The area is a plateau of limestone and karst formations, filled with dense forestation and numerous mineral springs. The views from certain viewpoints are spectacular and you can always expect to meet an animal here!

Activities

A seaside staircase will not only feed your soul with the stunning views of the Mediterranean, but will also take you down to the natural wonder Alghero. Alghero is a deep cave with a large seawater lake inside, as well as all kinds of geological forms.

Supramonte Mountain is one of the ranges on Sardinia; it is also the place where you will find Italy’s Grand Canyon. Gola di Gorropu is almost two kilometers wide and descends a remarkable 500 m down the mountain. Huge boulders make up one of the best hiking trails on the island, according to professionals. The region is also a popular destination for rafting on the turbulent rivers.

Capo Caccia Vertical Cliffs are a frightening type of vertical rock formations diving deep into the Mediterranean. As you may have already guessed, they are a popular rock climbing destination, but the views from atop the cliff are out of this world and can be enjoyed even on a short hike from the nearest road.
