Last minute adventure holidays

The best time for an adventure is right now! Yes, it’s true that an unplanned adventure holiday might turn out to be twice as good as one you have spent months planning. We have pickout a few European locations, which are some of the best places in terms of the adventures they offer. Whether you want a mountainous set up, a vacation near the seaside, or one in the countryside, we have you covered.

Our last minute deals offer different types of cottages and chalets, but also traditional and special houses such as French gites, Spanish fincas, or treehouses. Regardless of their location, all nature houses offer their visitors a chance to reunite with nature, to relax in the peace and quiet of the mornings, and to enjoy a bit of adventure (or a lot of!). The houses are equipped with modern facilities to ensure your comfort; the hosts are friendly and willing to give advice on nearby natural wonders you could visit.

Natural adventures to consider

One of the greatest adventures we have had the chance to experience was a trip through Iceland. Our do-not-miss list of the things you can discover during your last minute Iceland adventure includes the Katla volcano, Langjökull National Park and glacier, the Surtshellir lava cave, Dettifoss waterfall.

If you prefer a warmer climate, check out the options for Greece. Mount Olympus is the place to start. The Olympus National Park is worthy of a visit, and it offers spectacular views, garnished with some of the most famous myths ever. While the mount is the centrepiece of the location, there are also other natural wonders to explore.

The archipelago of Madeira is another unique destination for your adventure. The main island is a green paradise of nature laying on top of a submerged volcano. With wild forests and a coastline of 150 km, there is no way you will get bored here. Definitely, the greenest place here is the Laurissilva ancient forest, home to gigantic trees, as well as rare bird species such as Zino’s petrel. Laurissilva is part of the Madeira Nature Reserve and a recognized Natural Heritage for Humanity by UNESCO.

Activities

If you visit Iceland, try the 4-hour-long route across the volcanoes on Reykjanes Peninsula. You will cross a geothermal area with numerous geysers and a lake with panoramic views – Kleifarvatn. During the months between October and March, you can also enter the inside of a glacier! During these months, the weather is cold enough so that entering a glacier ice cave is relatively safe.

If you enjoy the water, then we suggest you take a look at France and more specifically the region around the Verdon Gorge. The river Verdon flows through the French Alps, creating this bright green canyon, as deep as 700 meters in some parts. Explore the gorge and the surrounding rocks by rock climbing, fly fishing, canoeing, paragliding and so on. For groups there is also a possibility to go rafting, you can also rent bikes and book a private tour guide to lead you through some of the best views in Europe along a few of the hiking/cycling trails in the area.
