Discover the Dane nature

A weird but at the same time interesting aspect of Dane culture is the fact that they turn cemeteries into parks. And when we say parks, we mean that people visit them just for a walk, go for a picnic or even use them as shortcuts on their daily commute. One of the most spectacular cemetery parks is Bispebjerg. Picturesque paths with flowers and trees have covered this park turning it into a favorite spot for locals and a famous photo location during spring when the cherry trees blossom.

Kalvebod Fælled or Westamager is a natural area covering a quarter of the Amager Island near the capital. This area includes a former sea bed with many islets which nowadays are small hills providing great views of the tidal marshes. Moreover, a large part of the area is under the Natura-2000 scheme due to its significance for bird protection.

Arresø is the largest lake in Denmark and is located a short trip away from the country capital. The lake flows into the Roskilde Fjord area through an artificial canal. Numerous rivers and streams flow through the lake area, while hill ridges cover most of its west shore. These hills create the perfect place for pictures in front of the beautiful lake panorama.

Activities

The Deer Park or Dyrehaven is also nearby Copenhagen. The dense woodland is crossed by numerous trails that are well-established and suitable for various activities. There are also organized horseback riding tours.

Syndhavnstippen is a great place to spend a day in the company of alpacas and sheep. This green area which is actually a Copenhagen neighborhood is located a bike trip away from the center. Lush vegetation, pristine waters and the animals have turned this oasis into a favorite spot for Dane families and their children.

The biggest island in Denmark – Amager is a place full of fun things to do. There are beaches which you can enjoy, some of them are popular watersport locations, such as the Copenhagen Cable Park. You can also visit Copenhill - an artificial ski slope situated on top of a clean energy project.
