Cottages Upper Normandy

The charisma of the French countryside is unmatched. The mixture of modern-day culture and old traditions creates a unique atmosphere you can easily enjoy by booking a cottage in France. Our particular suggestion this time is the Upper Normandy area in Northern France. In the recent past, it was an administrative region, however in 2016 Lower and Upper Normandy merged to form the new region called Normandy. The name of the region interestingly enough is not French, but a Scandinavian word meaning a “northman”.

While Upper Normandy is a destination with a focus on history and culture in France, its landscape is something you would rather not miss. Therefore, check out the cottages located in the rural parts of Upper Normandy and explore the wonderful environment of this part of the French countryside. The cottages create an authentic experience as they are designed and furnished in a traditional way with the aim to make you feel as close to the French way of living as possible.

Nature of Upper Normandy

This part of Normandy is lucky in terms of location. It is close to Paris while also being on the edge of the English Channel. A varied coastline is the most prominent characteristic of this area. Seaside cliffs, coves, pebble or sand beaches, all of which attract many tourists during the warmer months in spring and summer. The inner parts of Upper Normandy have lush forests, small hills, little streams and beautiful riverbanks.

One of the most interesting places to visit are the white cliffs in Etretat. The cliffs are carved in unusual forms turning into an unmatched location with an amazing panorama of the sea! Another picturesque place in the area is the Jardins d’Etretat. This is a garden inspired by Asia which provides visitors with an amazing view over the Etretat cliffs and the bay beach.

Another amazing visit is the Le Perche Regional Nature Park. The park is covered in forests, farmlands, meadows and small hills here and there, and is definitely a beautiful day to spend a day at. The landscape is stunning, especially interesting are the old houses, farms and small picturesque villages spread across its territory. Nature enthusiasts are bound to fall in love with this park!

Activities

Le Perche is a place for numerous activities. Horse riding enthusiasts seem to love the park area as there are numerous riding paths and centers. Moreover, for those who enjoy exploring by foot, there is an 87 km long discovery trail for tourists which begins at the town of Noce and will take you by some of the most beautiful buildings on the park’s premises. As a whole, Le Perche is a place not only for nature enthusiasts, but also for those with an interest in architecture, history, arts and traditions!

As the region is on the coastline, water adventures are unmissable! Sailing, windsurfing, surfing, diving and snorkeling are some of the activities you can engage in to explore the Channel waters! Cycling on the other hand is the quickest and easiest way to tour the area. There are specific routes which are family-friendly, thus are a great option if you are travelling with kids and want to make a nature vacation as fun as possible for them.
