Although Las Palmas is officially part of Spain, this island group is actually located off the coast of Morocco. Las Palmas covers the eastern part of the Canary Islands. The province consists of three large islands and several smaller ones. A holiday home on Las Palmas means not only sun, sea and beach but also beautiful nature. The islands are home to many special plants and animals. For example, American bird species are regularly observed on Las Palmas. The capital of the province is the town of Las Palmas with the same name. The city is characterized by sandy beaches and tropical parks.

Nature in Las Palmas

The western large island of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, is mountainous. The highest mountain is the Picos de las Nieves, and reaches an altitude of 1949 meters. The mountains, consisting of volcanic rock, are rocky and partly covered with forests. On the middle island you will find the natural park Jandia. The nature park is an alternation between rocky mountains and sandy dunes, and very valuable for the flora and fauna. On the most northeastern island of Las Palmas you can visit the Timanfaya National Park from your cottage. This park consists of a volcanic landscape. The area is completely covered with rubble, stone and craters, and you feel like you are in a real moonscape.

In Las Palmas numerous species of birds have been identified. When you go into nature from your holiday home, you should definitely bring binoculars. In the Canary Islands there are even some endemics, species that do not occur anywhere else in the world. For example, during a stay in a holiday home on Las Palmas, you may encounter the Canary Stonechat and the Canary Chiffchaff. Many other spectacular bird species can be found on the islands, such as the the red-vented bulbul, Berthelots pager, desert finch and Barbary partridge. Also for any other species, such as plants and insects, there are plenty of interesting species to be found.
