Cottages in Faro

Do you prefer to combine culture with nature during your holiday, but wouldn't you rather skip a day at the beach? Then rent a holiday home in Faro! This area is the southernmost district of Portugal and includes the entire Algarve region. The entire west and south of the District border on the Atlantic Ocean, the east borders on neighboring Spain. The Algarve is a popular destination for hibernators because of its fine climate with lots of sunshine. The lack of large industries and the location of Faro on the ocean ensure a particularly clean air. So you can literally catch your breath from the busy daily life here.

Flora and fauna

Faro has an enormously varied landscape. While on the west coast small sandy beaches are hidden between large rock formations, the south coast is dominated by miles of sandy beaches. Anyone who travels further into the Algarve will discover that the interior of this region is hilly and untouched. Ideal for getting to know the real Faro and discovering nature. There are fig trees, orange trees, cork oaks, cacti and almond trees, between which chameleons, storks and geckos have found their place. The west coast of Faro is formed by the National Park of Sudoeste Alentejano and Costa Vicentina. This enormous nature reserve starts at the city of Sines (district Setúbal), runs along the west coast of the district Beja and then ends on the south Portuguese coast at the city of Lagos. For dozens of migratory birds, this is the ideal resting and breeding area. They build their nests on the towering cliffs along the coast. Discover the green, the coast and the rugged cliff landscape while walking on one of the many signposted paths in this national park.

Activities

For a holiday full of sun, sea and beach, a holiday home in Faro is of course the ideal holiday destination. Its location on the Atlantic Ocean ensures that the beach is never far away and you can enjoy a wonderful sunshine everywhere. In the Algarve you can undertake numerous activities. A visit to one or more of the atmospheric cities of Faro is not to be missed anyway. Cities like Albufeira, Monchique, Lagos, Portimão or the capital Faro with the same name will sound familiar to many people. You'll find historic centers with churches, markets, countless restaurants and cosy squares where the locals come together. In Faro, the Maritime Museum and the Museu de Etnografia Regional are recommended. In this second one you will learn more about the traditional life of the Portuguese in the Algarve. Don't forget to visit the highest point of Faro: the 902 meter high Fóia, part of the Serra de Monchique. From almost every one of our holiday homes in Spain you can enjoy wide views over the Portuguese landscape. Take a seat on your private terrace and watch the sunrise or sunset while enjoying a nice glass of wine. Although Vinho Verde is made in the north of Portugal, in Faro it is a drink to drink!
