Nature and surroundings
The nature and beaches in this area have not yet been spoiled by mass tourism because of its protected coast and the large national parks: Ebro Delta, Els Ports and Priorat. Delta de L'Ebre is the second largest delta on the Mediterranean Sea, where nature lovers are catered for. There are various ecosystems, such as salt marshes, green rice fields, dunes with wide sand bars and lagoons where rare birds can be found. The coastal area and the Ebro River are known for their fishing and boating opportunities. The Els Ports is a rugged area with mountains up to 1500 meters, where you will find many birds of prey, cabras (wild goats) and bulls, among others. Very worthwhile is the Via Verde, which starts in Roquetes and ends in the "Picasso village" Horta de San Joan. This former railroad line has been converted into a cycling and walking route and takes you past small villages, streams and natural areas. The Priorat is known as the wine region of Spain where the best wines come from. It is a protected area and is reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. The authentic villages, beautiful wineries, vineyards and overwhelming nature in this region are well worth a visit.
